The Chiang Mai Nayu Foundation works for the transformation of Chiang Mai into a thriving example of a healthy and sustainable city in Southeast Asia. We actively seek collaborations in Chiang Mai with partner organizations, private businesses, local government offices, and individuals of all ages. Sustainability and wellbeing can only be achieved together.
Sustainability is the ability of a system to continue indefinitely. To do this implies that the system conditions are optimal for the system to function and achieve its purpose. For Chiang Mai Nayu, the system conditions for long-term sustainability of our city are framed by the four dimensions of Sustainability: Nature, Economy, Society and Well-Being. Sustainability for our city is when these four system conditions interact together in a balanced and harmonious way. Therefore, creating a sustainable city means preserving some things we currently have… and changing others. It means restoring and preserving ecosystems that support animals, plants and people in a dynamic continuum of life. It means paying attention to the mistakes made in regards to land/water use, transportation and urban planning, so we do not face a future dominated by unmanageable urban sprawl and superhighways. It means increasing the equity of access and opportunity in our city, so everyone can enjoy the benefits of the dynamic and desirable city we are building. It means attracting new “circular economy” businesses and updating systems and technologies, so that we create new local jobs while avoiding pollution or environmental damage. And it means prioritizing the wellness and happiness of its people to live flourishing lives.
For Chiang Mai Nayu, this means a city exists in harmony with nature, economy, society, and well-being. It requires preserving natural resources, restoring landscapes, reusing materials. And in doing so, learning from past experiences. We envision a city with social participation, innovative businesses, and healthy people existing in harmony with nature. To achieve sustainability in Chiang Mai, we want your participation. Everyone can set an example. What would you like to improve?
